PARKWAY, Sacramento County — Nicholas Park, at 6560 47th Street in the Parkway area, provides public recreation facilities for families, local teams and residents who want outdoor exercise close to home.

Southgate Recreation and Park District lists the park at 9.7 acres, with lighted basketball courts, two lighted soccer or softball fields, playground space, barbecue facilities, picnic space and a lighted parking area. The district acquired the property from the Nicholas family in the early 1970s and describes it as a long-standing neighborhood destination for organized sports.

The park district’s history page describes plans for field conversions and renovation work dating to 2022; that historic description is not evidence that every proposed modification is finished or that all courts are available at any time. Field reservations and tournaments can affect public access.

What Parkway residents should know

Families and sports organizers should check current park-district information before scheduling games or gatherings. The district accepts facility-rental inquiries and maintenance reports, and visitors should observe posted park rules, parking restrictions and any signs identifying reserved facilities.
